Faux Pressed Poinsettia
Another night of treat or tricking is over. We had at least three hundred. Hubby and I just sit outside and hand out the candy. What fun to see all the costumes. I think the best costume I saw was on a tall teenager that was a bat. His wing span must have been 5-6 ft. He could flap those things, too. Kind of creeped me out. LOL
Thanks to Vicky Gould, our hostess this week at CCEE Stampers, we got to use a technique called faux pressed flowers. It is really fun and the technique can be found here. Although, the first card I made (below) didn't press so well. I started with a silk-like flower and forgot to glue it down and that could be the reason it didn't embed. So, I used my poinsettia die and cut a paper flower and it worked like a charm.
I love the image that I used for the first time. I also really like the color combo of red, black, and white. Plus, the card was really quick and easy.
Below is my first card that didn't work so well. I did like it because I stamped my sentiment up a bit higher and it seemed to be more in balance. I didn't add the silver cording that I used on the first one.
Edit: One of my commenters, Marianne, said she thinks the first one looks out of balance to me because my flower is larger on the second card and I think she is correct. Good eye, Marianne.
We would love for you to join us in this challenge. Just make a card using this technique and go to CCEE Stampers and link it. The challenge is CCEE1244.

Both your card look so beautiful and elegant...i love the faux pressed flower technique you have used...something i am seeing for the first time !!
i love your embedded embossing card, sweetie!
it looks so amazing!
hugs and kisses from germany,
silvi xoxo
They are both lovely cards, Brenda. I think that maybe the top cards feels a bit out of balance because the flower you used there is smaller. I'm sure, though, that the recipients of both cards will love them. I also had a look at the tutorial and I love the effect you can create using this technique, so I'll need to give it a try myself.
Oh my goodness, over 300??? Wow! Did you have to go to a wholesale club to buy you candy? Goodness Gracious! We went to our Church Fall Festival and then came back to our neighborhood for a few of the neighbors we are close to. My son still made out.
Both cards are fantastic~ Have a wonderful day! So elegant!
Hallo Benzi,
Es freut mich das Du Halloween gut überstanden und viel Spaß dabei hattest.
Ich mag beide Karten von dir. Die Prägung, Motive und Farbkombi sehen toll aus.
Liebe Grüße Carmen
I love both of these, Benzi! I've done that technique with paper several times, but now I want to try the silk flowers, or rather leaves, since I have some lying around that are in fall colors. I like that the silks add a bit more texture and dimension than the paper. Gorgeous cards!
I've been thinking about whether it's possible to make black and white Christmas cards - it seems so stark. But add a little pop of red and you get instant WOW! Gorgeous! PS - THREE HUNDRED trick or treaters! We normally get about 120, but only 80 last night due to wet weather. More Mars bars for me! lol!
Love W & B and red together and the pop of red really shows. Think I agree with the comment. Actuually quite like the flower on the second one too :) Great work on both.
300 kids!! Wow! That's a lot of candy to give out! We only had around 30.
Your trick-or-treat night was much busier than mine. You said you had over three hundred -- I had three groups, for a total of eight children! Now what do I do with all the left-over candy? Oh, your card is very dramatic and so very pretty!
You know, I'm with Marianne. I like the second better because of the size of the flower. Of course I love them both.....in my fav color combo!
Oh wow! I love the technique! I want to try it soon!!! Very cool! I love how you used the sentiment! I have that stamp set but I never seem to know how to use it! I am going to try it like this with the black, white and red!!!! Thanks for sharing the technique and your beautiful cards!
Beautiful card, Brenda! Great technique! This turned out so elegant!
Beautiful result on your technique, Benz. tghe card is lovely and elegant.
So classy and beautiful in the black, white, and red, Brenda!
We don't get any trick or treaters because we live in the country...I sure do miss seeing the kiddies dressed up in their costumes.
they are both fabulous, but I too, like some of the others, favor the one with the bigger flower...love that main image too....so dramatic in MY fav color combo....and yours, and Anne's......
So pretty, Brenda, I love the colors.
300 kids trick or treating? WOW!! We never get any, so I don't even buy candy anymore :) I think both cards are beautiful, and this color combo works beautifully for Christmas cards! Nice job on both!
LOVE THE WAY THOSE FLOWERS JUST POP! FANTASTIC TECHNIQUE! HOPEFULLY I CAN GET INTO THE CRAFT ROOM AND PLAY! THANKS FOR THE inspiration!
I must admit to a sneaking preference for the first one (second picture) too. In my own experiments I came to the conclusion that Swiss Dots isn't a textured-enough folder to give the best results for the flower pressing part, but for a CAS creation like this when you're stamping that gorgeous sentiment on the base also it works wonderfully.
How striking....that touch of red was just the right touch!!!
300 trick or treaters?? Egads! That's a lot! We never get quite that many. The bat costume sounds really cool!
I agree with reader Marianne about the balance being better on the 2nd card. The big flower just looks right there. Love that sentiment, and that bird in the corner reminds me of the stamp I sent you!
Both of these are beautiful, Benzi! I love that sentiment and the black and white with the red flower are so classy! I'd love to try this technique. Wish there was more stamping time in a day!
Now, if you'd posted the first card and said nothing, I would have thought it was fabulous! But your second one definitely is even more fabby!
300 trick or treaters!!!! I think we maybe had about 20!
These are both beautiful! I love the color combo of black and white with a pop of color! I do like the second one best but they're both beautiful!
They both look great - I love that sentiment - how cool is that! Wonderful colors too. Lovely.
We don't even get one single trick or treater. I guess living in the country down a long dirt driveway discourages them. Maybe one day the Grandkids (when I get some) will at least make the trek down the road - LOL.
